Description
"Interactive Green Tea" is an interactive choice-based short fiction that presents the intertwined narratives of three different characters: the Man, the Blonde, and the Red-Haired Girl. While the direction of the story remains globally the same, it has multiple plot layers to unlock when considered interactively, for each character has a meaningful role in the other characters’ narrative. The viewers experience the rush of gaining control over the characters’ actions, as they get to pick where the story is going to go by using branching choices to adjust the storyline.
The Man is the protagonist who carries a lot of clout in all narratives. He is the former lover in the Red-Haired Girl’s story; he is caught in a time warp in the Green Tea teahouse, as the Red-Haired Girl’s soul will detain him until he returns the green ribbon to her (a pledge of love and loyalty which still keeps her attached to him); he helps the Blonde escape from her nightmare; he sets the Red-Haired Girl’s soul free the moment he gives the green ribbon to the Blonde (thus making a new pledge to love). The Blonde’s new-born baby is the reincarnation of the dead Red-Haired Girl’s soul. The Man is able to break free from the time warp the moment he summons up the courage to step over a threshold, that is, when he is able to leave his old love story behind and abandon himself to the new one, as he does when he plunges into the sea waves at sun rise (the symbol of a new beginning).
All these story facets can be grasped only by giving audiences a feeling of control over the story via the interactive narrative technique, i.e., the chance to make choices for the characters vs. watching passively a linear movie.
